The Future Is Drying Up

advertisement

The West is the fastest-growing part of the country. It's also the driest. And climate change could be making matters much, much worse.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Water is sacred! Water is life!
These are the words I hear from my elders on our tiny South Dakota reservations. Now hopefully others throughout this country will understand them as I do. We can't keep polluting the earth, hoping that wishing away our wastes will make it go away.

You are so right. It is depressing. When I lived in Albuquerque we were well aware that for one we lived in the desert, high-desert but desert just the same. Two we knew we relied on an aquifer for our water. Conservation was not just a lofty idea but a reality.

My heart really feels for the people who now find themselves in a very desperate situation. This is a disaster. We as Americans need to step up and do something to help our fellow Americans before things get out of control. Water IS life. People will not stay civil if their choices are to die or get buckwild.

Katrina will be out shadowed by this crisis if nothing is done.

Excellent seed.
